How AI Is Changing Fraud (and What to Do About It)

Evan Lane |

A scammer pretending to be a support rep calls you. They sound official, reference your account, and ask you to download software so they can “fix the issue.”

Would you know what to do?

These scams are becoming more sophisticated, often using AI to mimic real companies. If you ever get a call like this:

  • Don’t download anything or share access.

  • Never trust caller ID alone. Scammers can fake it. This tactic is called spoofing.

  • Hang up and contact the company directly using a number you know is real.

I’m not sharing this to sound alarmist. I believe that staying informed is part of staying financially confident, especially in a world that is moving quickly.

This month’s Visual Insights Newsletter highlights five common scams that are becoming harder to spot, including the one covered above. The other four might surprise you.
